Bring Your Dog to Caffeine and Octane Atlanta — August 2

First Sunday of the month, Kennesaw, Georgia. Thousands of cars, a parking lot the size of a small airfield, and a start time early enough that you can be home before the Georgia sun gets serious about it. That is Caffeine and Octane Atlanta, and the next one lands on Sunday, August 2, 2026.

The event

Caffeine and Octane runs 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Town Center at Cobb, 400 Ernest W Barrett Pkwy NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144. It is one of the largest monthly car shows in America — thousands of vehicles, the first Sunday morning of every month, rain or shine, free to attend.

The scale is the appeal. This is not a club meet with forty cars. It is a rolling cross-section of American car culture: exotics parked next to lifted trucks parked next to a Fox-body someone has been sorting out for a decade. Two and a half hours, and you still will not see all of it.

The dog question

Straight from the event's listing:

So: call the host or check their site before you bring your dog. The board flags this one as "Check with host" for a reason. Town Center at Cobb is a shopping center, and shopping centers have their own pet rules independent of whoever is running the car show in their lot. Do not assume the two policies agree.

The real hazard here is not the cars — it is the ground

We want to be blunt about this one, because a Georgia parking lot in August is the single most underrated danger a dog owner faces at a car meet. Asphalt in direct sun can run 40 to 60 degrees hotter than the air. On a 90-degree morning, that is pavement well past the threshold where paw pads blister — and pads burn quietly. Your dog will keep walking on it because they want to be with you.

The seven-second test: press the back of your hand flat against the asphalt and hold it. If you cannot keep it there for seven seconds, your dog should not be standing on it. Do this at the edge of the lot before you commit, not after you have walked two hundred yards in.

The 9:00 AM start is your friend here. Early is cooler. Show up at the beginning, not the end — by 11:30 the lot has been baking for hours.

The rest of the checklist

• Leash at all times. Thousands of people and a live parking lot. No exceptions, no retractables.
• Water you brought yourself. A collapsible bowl and more water than you think you need. There is very little natural shade in a mall lot.
• Make your own shade. If you have a pop-up or even just a car with a hatch and a fan, use it. Retreat to it on a timer.
• Never leave your dog in a parked car. Not for a minute. In Georgia in August, a parked car is a death trap and it does not take long.
• High-value treats for a high-distraction room. This is one of the busiest car environments in the country. If you want your dog's attention when an exhaust barks off two rows over, you need to be paying better than the environment is.
• Know your dog. If crowds and revving engines wind them up rather than bore them, this is not the meet to find that out at.

Treats that earn their keep
