Spott's Pet Shoppe is not a shop you can drive to on a Monday. It is a stall inside the Westtown Amish Market on Wilmington Pike, south of West Chester borough, and it trades only on the three days the market itself opens its doors. That is the reason it is easy to miss on a map and the reason it took us four sweeps to find it.

The store

The market lists the stall on its merchant index as Spott's Pet Shoppe and gives it a page of its own under the headline Pet Store West Chester PA. The market around it is an indoor farmers market in the Westtown Village Shopping Center that opened in December 2015 and now runs to more than fifteen merchants, so the pet counter sits in a row with a bakery, a butcher, a poultry stand, a cheese and deli counter, a produce market, a pretzel bakery and an Amish furniture maker. Parking is the shopping centre lot, shared with everybody else in the building, which is worth knowing on a Saturday morning when the grill is running. The stall keeps its own telephone line on 610-492-5702, separate from the market switchboard on 610-492-5700.

What they carry

The stall's own page leads with pet supplies and with dog and cat food, then lists a second half of the counter that has nothing to do with pets at all: wild bird houses, feeders, copper roof cupolas, mailboxes, and poly patio furniture including chairs, tables, gliders and lighthouses. It also announces kids toys, which the market's merchant index repeats with the line "Plus we carry children's toys". The mailboxes and cupolas are Royal Crowne, offered in conjunction with Westtown Amish Furniture, and the stall will install mailboxes, post lights and birdhouses as well as sell them. No food brands are named anywhere on the page, and there is no mention of grooming, a self serve wash bay or live animals. Treat the food side as a stocked shelf rather than a specialist counter, and ring ahead if you need a particular bag.

Hours, parking and the address

The hours here are the market's hours, not separately confirmed stall hours: Thursday 9am to 6pm, Friday 9am to 7pm, Saturday 8am to 4pm. The market publishes those three days in the header and footer of every page on its site, and Google publishes no hours at all for the stall, so the honest statement is that the counter cannot be open when the building is shut. One more thing before you set the satnav. The market's own site gives its address as 1165 Wilmington Pike, West Chester, PA 19382, while the Google listing for the stall reads 1191 Wilmington Pike. Both point at the same Westtown Village Shopping Center. We use 1165, because that is the market's own figure, and we record 1191 here so nobody has to rediscover the discrepancy.
