Dogs still need their miles in January, and most love the cold. But winter has its own hazards: de-icing salt that irritates paws, hidden ice, and how fast small or thin-coated dogs lose heat. Wipe paws after salted sidewalks, watch for lifted paws and shivering, and keep the loops shorter when it is bitter.
