Which Lamb Chop Size Fits Your Dog
Share
Short answer: match the lamb to the mouth. A dog who can carry the toy comfortably, with room to squeak it, has the right size. The Multipet Lamb Chop collection runs from a 4 inch birthday lamb to a 28 inch floppy lamb, and this guide lays out every size and edition in one place, using Multipet's own sizing words where the listings give them. Ella, Asher's dog and the Sniff and Shift tester, has never met a lamb she would not pack for a road trip, so this is for the rest of us who have to pick one.
The whole lineup by size
Here is every Lamb Chop in the line, smallest to largest. Small: the Lamb Chop with Birthday Hat at 4 inches, Knobby Noggins at 5 inches, the classic Lamb Chop at 6 inches, the birthday hat lamb at 6 inches, the Lamb Chop Crinkle at 6 inches, the Tailgate Lamb Chop with Football at 6.5 inches, and the Floppy Lamb Chop at 7 inches. Middle: the Lamb Chop Squeaker Mat at 9 inches, the classic Lamb Chop at 10.5 inches, the birthday hat lamb at 10.5 inches, the Rainbow Lamb Chop at 10.5 inches, and the Floppy Lamb Chop at 14 inches. Large: the Floppy Lamb Chop at 20 inches, the Standing Floppy Lamb Chop at 20 inches, the classic Lamb Chop at 24 inches, and the Floppy Lamb Chop at 28 inches. The classic, by the way, is the one Multipet lists as available in three sizes, and the birthday edition is the one Multipet lists in two colors.
What Multipet actually says about sizing
Multipet does not print a breed chart on these, so we are not going to invent one. What the listings do say: the Tailgate Lamb Chop with Football is, in Multipet's words, sized just right for small dogs. The Lamb Chop Crinkle is described as a mini addition to the Lamb Chop family, with a flat body filled with crinkle material and a plush head that squeaks. Knobby Noggins is a new addition with a knobby rubber ball inside its head for dogs who love to fetch. The Floppy editions have arms Multipet says are good for tugging, and every classic size shares the same super soft exterior and squeaker. That is the full set of sizing language, so everything below is a plain rule of thumb, not a Multipet spec.
Small dogs and puppies
Stay in the 4 to 7 inch group. The 4 inch birthday lamb is the tiniest lamb in the line and fits a small mouth with room to spare. The 6 inch classic is the everyday size, the 6 inch Crinkle adds texture for a dog who likes a flat body that crinkles and a head that squeaks, and the 6.5 inch Tailgate lamb is the one Multipet itself calls sized for small dogs. The 7 inch Floppy gives a little dog long arms to tug without the bulk of the bigger floppies. If your small dog is a fetch dog, the 5 inch Knobby Noggins with its rubber ball head is the small fetch option.
Medium dogs
The 9 to 14 inch group is the sweet spot for a dog who can carry a full sized lamb by the head. The 10.5 inch classic is the middle child of the three classic sizes and the size most people mean when they say Lamb Chop. The 9 inch Squeaker Mat is flat and light for its size, and its nine squeakers make it feel bigger than it is. The 14 inch Floppy is the middle floppy, with enough arm to tug and enough body to nap on. If your dog wants a party, the 10.5 inch birthday hat lamb is the same lamb in a hat, and the 10.5 inch Rainbow adds color.
Large dogs and dogs who like a big pillow
The 20 to 28 inch group is for a dog who wants the lamb to be roughly dog sized. The 20 inch Floppy and the 20 inch Standing Floppy give a big dog long arms to drag around, the 24 inch classic is the largest of the three classic sizes, and the 28 inch Floppy is the biggest lamb in the whole line, with a squeaker like the rest. A large lamb also makes a good back seat pillow on a long drive, which is a real consideration if your dog travels. Pack a bag of freeze-dried dog treats next to it and the back seat is set.
Still torn?
Buy the size your dog can carry today, not the size they might grow into, because a lamb that drags on the ground is a lamb that gets left behind. Puppies who will grow can start at 6 inches and size up later. Multi dog households can split the difference with a 10.5 inch classic that nobody has to share for long. Plush toys are for play and cuddling, not for solo chewing. Supervise play and take the toy away if pieces come loose. One last thing before you shop the Multipet toys collection: these toys are sold and shipped by The Family Pet, an independent pet store in Nanuet, New York, through Shopify Collective. They are made by Multipet, not by Sniff and Shift. We just happen to have a tester who will not get in the car without one.
