Multi-Dog Parallel Enrichment Kit: Two Full Sets

One enrichment toy in a two dog house is not enrichment. It is a resource, and the dog that gets to it first spends the next ten minutes guarding it while the other one hovers. The answer is two of everything in shapes that do not look alike: a Can Toy and a Dinosaur Egg for the dispensers, a suction mat and a nylon disc for the licking, and one bag of cheddar bites to load all four. Different shapes, not two of the same
This is the part most people get wrong when they finally buy a second toy. Two identical toys are still one toy as far as the dogs are concerned, and the standoff just moves to whichever one is nearer. Give each dog a distinct shape and a distinct spot on the floor and within about a week they stop checking on each other mid session. That is the whole design of this kit. The Can Toy goes to the dog that already knows one
SodaPup's Can Toy is shaped like a soda can, in orange or green, and runs through four sizes from 1.7 ounces at Small to 14 ounces at Extra Large. SodaPup rates it for average chewers. It is the familiar shape here, so it goes to whichever dog has had a dispenser before, and the size is chosen for that dog rather than for the house. It cleans up in the dishwasher.
The Dinosaur Egg goes to the other one
The Large Dinosaur Egg stands 5 inches tall and 3.25 inches wide, weighs 8.4 ounces and holds 6 fluid ounces. SodaPup rates it for heavy chewers and super chewers, a step up from the Can Toy, so if one of your two is the harder chewer this is the one that should go to it. SodaPup's instruction is to fill it with kibble, peanut butter or a frozen mix and let the dog work the treats out. It also goes through the dishwasher, which matters when you are washing four things instead of two.

Two mats, two very different surfaces
The Camp eMat is TPE, about 8 inches square, in orange and green, with suction cups that grip tile, glass or a vehicle window. SodaPup describes it as one of the best suction cup lick mats for active dogs and made in the USA. Stick it low on tile or a glass door and it stays there while a dog works it, which means it cannot be dragged across the kitchen to where the other dog is.
The Air eCoin is the opposite approach: a flat nylon disc, 5 inches across, blue, with a hot air balloon pattern and grooves on both faces. Nylon rather than silicone means it survives a dog that chews its mat instead of licking it. It goes on the top rack of the dishwasher. Put it on the far side of the room from the suction mat, ideally out of sight of it.
One bag of treats, not two
Cheddar cheese bites come in one 8 ounce bag, single ingredient, and that is enough to load four items without running out halfway through a Tuesday. Crude protein is listed at 34 percent minimum and crude fat at 50 percent minimum, so these are rich, and they work crushed into a mat as well as pushed whole into a dispenser. Count them against the day's food. Cheddar is dairy, which is the one reason to skip this bag and load the four toys with a fish or liver treat instead. What we left out
A snuffle mat. They turn up on every multi-dog enrichment list and they are the single worst item to give two dogs in one room, because a snuffle mat holds loose food that scatters, and scattered food is what a standoff is actually about. There is also only one shared toy suggested as an addon rather than in the kit, the tire toy, and that is deliberate. Shared comes later, after each dog has its own routine.
Running two dogs in parallel
Set the stations up before you bring either dog in. Far enough apart that reaching one does not mean walking past the other, and ideally with a corner or a doorway between them. Load all four, then release both dogs at the same moment so neither is watching the other get something first. Stop the session while both are still working, not when one has finished and gone looking.
Supervise multi-dog sessions, every time. Pick up an empty toy rather than leaving it out for the other dog to find, and feed the two of them in separate spots so an empty dispenser never becomes something to argue over. Swap which dog gets which shape only after a month, if at all, because the point of the exercise is that each dog knows which one is its own.
What it replaces
One toy, two dogs and a quiet tension every evening. Four items and one bag of treats covers two dogs working at the same time, and because each dog has its own shape, you can tell at a glance whose is whose when you are picking them up off the floor.
Questions we get
Do I need two of everything if the dogs get along?
Yes. Conflict is not the reason, queueing is, and dogs that like each other queue as reliably as dogs that do not. A dog standing there waiting its turn is getting nothing whatsoever out of the session, which means half of what you paid for is doing no work at all.
Can the suction mat go on a car window?
SodaPup lists tile, glass and vehicle windows as surfaces it grips, so yes, and it is genuinely useful at a rest stop. Check it has taken hold before you hand the dog over to it.
Should the harder chewer get the nylon mat or the TPE one?
Nylon. The Air eCoin is built to survive being chewed, and TPE is not, so match the material to the dog rather than to whichever color you prefer.
