Wheel Well Degreaser Kit
Share
The well and the wheel are two problems. A fender liner packed with dried clay wants an industrial degreaser and a long brush. The wheel face two inches away wants a gel cleaner that will not stain the finish. Using one product for both means either a degreaser on your wheels or a wheel cleaner failing against a pound of mud, which is why a wheel well degreaser kit is three bottles in a fixed order rather than one. More truck kits are on the bundle guides hub.
Top down, or you do it twice
Everything above drains onto everything below. Wells first, then the arch lip and the rocker, then the wheel itself last. Start at the wheel and you will watch brown water run over a clean rim within a minute of moving to the liner. That is the whole logic of the order, and it is the thing most people get wrong on a muddy truck.
The three bottles
3D Super Duty Degreaser is the gallon for liners, the underside of the fender and the suspension behind it. 3D describes it as an industrial strength, pro grade degreaser that removes, dissolves, loosens, breaks up and emulsifies greasy, oily, grimy sludge, supplied as a hyper concentrate that mixes with water. According to Pal Automotive, hand mixing runs 3 ounces per gallon of water for regular strength, 3.5 ounces for extra and 4 ounces for super, and those are not the ratios you would expect from other products. 3D states it will not stain surfaces or leave residues.
P&S Mud Buster in the gallon covers the arch lip, the rocker and the frame rails, which do not need degreaser strength but do need something that stays put on a vertical surface. P&S notes it is a heavy duty cleaner that may be used as is or diluted and delivered through a foam cannon, and on an off road truck or an ATV it is aimed at the undercarriage, the frame and the exterior. The gallon is the right size for a vehicle that gets dirty on purpose.
P&S Brake Buster in the gallon finishes at the wheel face. It behaves like a gel rather than a thin spray, so it stays on the barrel instead of running to the floor. P&S says it deposits a thin layer of special corrosion inhibitors to protect the wheel from future corrosion, which means it does something after the rinse as well as during. Decant it into a trigger bottle. Nobody wants to lift a gallon jug at a wheel arch.
What a competing list would add here
No undercarriage lance and no foam cannon. Both are genuinely useful on a truck this dirty and both are hardware that depends on the pressure washer you own, so buying them blind from a page like this one is how returns happen. Chemistry first, fittings second.
No tire dressing in the three either. It belongs at the end of this job rather than in the middle of it, and a gel dressing that stays put on an aggressive tread block sits in the add ons. The rest of the range is on the Wash Bay, and every wheel product we carry is searchable on Explore.
Doing one corner properly
Rinse the loose mud out of the well first with a hose, because chemistry on top of packed clay is wasted chemistry. Mix the degreaser at the weakest strength that works and put it in the liner, the arch and the suspension behind it. Let it dwell without drying. Agitate with a long handled brush, then rinse from the top of the arch down.
Now the general cleaner on the arch lip and the rocker, agitated and rinsed the same way. Wheel last: gel on a cool wheel, dwell while you move to the next corner, brush the barrel and the lug seats, rinse. Four corners, one at a time, and the truck is done in about an hour.
What three gallons replace
A truck wash bay charges by the minute and does not get into a fender liner. Three gallons of concentrate cover a season of trail runs and job sites, and the degreaser keeps working on the mower, the trailer tongue and the garage floor long after the truck is clean. The only part of this you cannot buy is the long handled brush, and you probably already own one.
Questions we get
Can I use the degreaser on the wheels to save a step?
Do not. An industrial degreaser is formulated for liners and frames, not for a finished wheel face, and the gel cleaner is in the kit precisely so you never have to make that call.
How do I keep the mud from packing again?
You do not, not really. Rinsing the wells out while the mud is still wet, the same evening you get home, is what turns an hour job into a ten minute one.
Is it worth doing this in winter?
In a salt belt, yes, more than in summer. Brine sitting in a liner against a seam does more damage over one winter than a whole season of dried mud does.
How it ships
Pal Automotive items are sold and shipped by Pal Automotive through Shopify Collective and arrive separately. Three gallons is a genuinely heavy box and it leaves Piscataway, New Jersey on ground service under one tracking number. Have two empty trigger bottles and a measuring jug ready before it lands. Concentrates at these ratios are measured rather than guessed, and guessing is how a gallon lasts one afternoon.
