The shop hands the keys back and says do not use anything harsh, which is accurate and completely useless as an instruction. In practice it means three things: no strong detergent soap, no ammonia on the glass, and no automatic car wash with brushes. This kit is the positive version of that advice, a maintenance wash that leaves something behind, a topper to go over it, and a glass cleaner in the same chemistry family. What a coated car actually needs
A coating is a sacrificial layer, and like any sacrificial layer it gets used up. Road film, traffic grime and mineral deposits sit on top of it and dull the water behavior long before the coating itself has failed. The usual sequence is that a car beads beautifully for four months, stops, and the owner concludes the coating was a waste of money when it is still there under a layer of film.
So the job is upkeep rather than repair. This suits anyone whose paint carries a coating, whether a shop applied it or you did it yourself last spring. If you are applying one rather than maintaining one, that is the other end of the same shelf, and the whole range sits on the Wash Bay hub.
Wash, top, glass
Radiance is the wash and P&S built it for this exact situation. They state the Coating Maintenance Wash was formulated as the partner to pair with the Inspiration family of coatings, coatings in general, or just well maintained paint finishes, and that Radiance helps remove dirt and grime from the paint without scratching. P&S adds that on rinsing, a coat of gloss and protection is left behind, boosting the existing coating or paint protection. That last part is the whole difference from an ordinary soap: this one is meant to leave something, which also means it belongs in your wash rotation and not in the prep before a polish.
The ceramic detailer is the step at the end of the dry. 3D lists GLW SiO2 Ceramic Detailer as adding gloss, depth and hydrophobic behavior while extending the life of the wax, sealant or ceramic coating already on the car, and describes the formula as streak free and spot free. It is a sixteen fluid ounce trigger bottle. 3D also lists it for paint, glass, wheels, chrome, grills and trim, so one bottle covers the whole exterior rather than the panels alone. Spray a panel, wipe it through as you dry, move on.
Glass is where coated cars are most often let down. 3D describes GLW SiO2 Ceramic Glass Cleaner as creating a hydrophobic barrier that enhances water, rain and fog repellency, calls the formula optical grade and streak free, and lists it as shielding against dirt, dust, UV rays and other contaminants. This is also a sixteen fluid ounce trigger bottle. Surface and coating compatibility beyond those statements is not published by the maker, so if your windshield carries a rain repellent treatment from a previous owner, try a corner first. Work on cool glass, out of the sun, with a towel kept only for glass.

What we left out, and the one thing we would not sell you
No iron remover, no clay and no decontamination of any kind. A coated car still picks up fallout, and at some point it needs stripping back and the coating may need topping up, but that is an annual reset rather than maintenance and it wants a deliberate decision. Selling decon chemistry inside a maintenance kit invites people to use it monthly, which shortens the life of the thing they paid for.
There is also no drying towel here, which is a genuine omission given that a coated car sheets water and dries in minutes if the towel is right. Add one if yours is thin. We left it out because most people who have paid for a coating already own a decent towel, and buying a second bad one helps nobody.
The routine, every other weekend
Rinse the whole car before a mitt touches it, because a coated surface releases dirt easily and most of it will come off with water alone. Wash top down with a grit guard in the bucket, separate tools for wheels and lower rockers, and rinse each section before the sun dries it. Rinse again thoroughly.
Dry immediately, and mist the detailer onto each panel as you go rather than doing the whole car at the end. Glass last, inside and out, with the dedicated towel. Two habits matter more than any product on this page: keep the car out of automatic washes with brushes, and deal with bird droppings the day they land rather than the weekend after, since a coating slows etching down without stopping it.
What it replaces
Waxing, mostly, and the quarterly sealant application that a coated car does not need. It also replaces the slow disappointment of washing a coated car with whatever soap was in the garage, which strips nothing but does leave a film that flattens the beading and makes an expensive coating look ordinary. Three bottles and an hour every other weekend keeps it behaving the way it did in the first month.
Questions
Can I use my normal car shampoo on a coated car?
A neutral shampoo will not harm the coating, but it leaves nothing behind and it lets road film build up over months. That film is what most people mistake for a failed coating. A maintenance wash is a small change to the routine that keeps the surface behaving.
How often should the topper go on?
Every wash is the simple answer, since it is applied during drying and costs you no extra time. If you wash weekly, that is generous, and skipping every other wash will not hurt anything.
Why not an ordinary glass cleaner?
You can use one, and the reason this kit does not is that ammonia based cleaners are the ones commonly avoided on tint and on treated glass. 3D's ceramic glass cleaner puts a hydrophobic layer down while it cleans, which is the behavior you already paid for on the paint.
