Run a fingernail lightly across one of the rings. If it is smooth, the minerals are sitting on top of your clear coat and a water spot remover will take them off. If you can feel an edge, the spot has etched into the paint and no chemical will fix it. Deposit or etch, and why the answer changes everything
A spot starts as a drop of hard water that evaporates and leaves its mineral content behind. Left alone in sun, that mineral concentrates and begins to eat a shallow crater into the clear coat. The first stage is chemistry. The second is paint correction with a machine, a pad and a polish, which is a different afternoon and a different kit. Most people arrive at this page with the first problem and assume they have the second.
The gel, the detailer and the glass bottle
Our gallon water spot remover is out of stock, so this kit runs the 3D Eraser Gel in a 16 ounce bottle instead. 3D describes it as a thick acidic gel that chemically dissolves the calcium and minerals making up the spots, along with the residue bonding them to the surface, and says it clings to vertical surfaces rather than running off the panel. That is the whole reason it is a gel. A liquid on a door gets about four seconds of contact before it is on the ground.
P&S Pit Stop is the pint that comes after. P&S describes it as a detail spray that removes dirt, fingerprints, dust and smudges and works on gloss and matte finishes alike. Its real job here is diagnostic. Wipe a treated panel down, look at it in low light from an angle, and the rings that are still visible are the ones that were etched rather than sitting on top.
3D GLW SiO2 Ceramic Glass Cleaner covers the windows, which spot harder than paint does and show it from inside the car every morning. 3D describes it as creating a hydrophobic barrier that enhances water, rain and fog repellency, and calls the formula optical grade and streak free. Skip it if your only problem is on painted panels, though the windshield is usually the first place anyone notices sprinkler damage.
Things a competing list would add
No polish and no machine. Plenty of guides for this search put a one step compound in the box, and that turns a twenty minute job into a full correction with a learning curve attached. If the fingernail test says etched, come back for the right kit rather than buying a polisher on the same order.

A slicker panel gives the next round of overspray less to hold onto, which is genuinely useful if the sprinkler is not going anywhere. It is a follow up, not part of the fix. Working a panel
Wash and dry the car first. Gel on a cool panel out of direct sun, worked with a damp towel or an applicator, and never left to dry. Give it the dwell the label asks for, then rinse the panel properly. Dry, wipe with the detailer, and look at it from an angle before you decide whether to go again. Two gentle passes beat one long one, because acidic products sitting on paint are how people trade a water spot for a dull patch.
Glass last, in the shade, one window at a time with two towels. Do the final walk around at dusk rather than at noon. Low raking light is when the rings show, and overhead sun is when they hide from you.
What it saves
A body shop quotes paint correction for spotting because that is the tool they have. Half the cars that arrive there only had a deposit, and a gel plus twenty minutes would have handled it. Questions we get
Why do my spots come back every week?
Because the sprinkler is still hitting the car. Move the car, adjust the head, or wash the car down before the sun comes up. Chemistry is a fix, not a defense.
Can I use this on a wrapped car?
Compatibility with wrap, and with coatings, is not stated by the maker here. Ask whoever installed the wrap, and in the meantime keep an acidic gel away from the seams.
Will it take the spots off my shower door?
3D lists the gel for glass, mirrors and chrome including shower doors, so yes, and the bottle will last a lot longer used that way than it will on a whole car.
