Hot Pavement and Your Dog: The 7-Second Rule

Air temperature lies to you about pavement. On an 86-degree day, asphalt can reach roughly 135 degrees, and paw burns can start around 120 degrees of surface heat. The fix is a five-second habit: press the back of your hand to the pavement. If you cannot hold it for seven seconds, it is too hot for paws.
