Best slow feeder dog bowl: comparing eBowl and eTray

Top any slow feeder with our freeze-dried treats for enrichment. We carry slow feeders in two depths and dozens of designs. There is no single best bowl, only the best one for your dog, your floor and which pattern makes you smile at mealtime.

Shallow eTray for small dogs and easy meals

Shallow trays spread food across a wide surface. Your dog's tongue moves sideways instead of straight down. This works for puppies learning to slow down, small dogs who eat from shallow dishes, and flat-faced breeds like Bulldogs and Pugs who do not fit their faces into deep bowls comfortably. Most eTray designs measure about 8 inches across and cost between $17.99 and $19.99. The shallow depth means less kibble per meal, which suits smaller dogs well.

Deep eBowl for medium to large dogs

Deep bowls have taller ridges and a bowl-like shape your dog may recognize from their old feeding routine. Medium and large dogs often prefer pushing their face down into a bowl rather than spreading it flat across a tray. Deep bowls cost $21.99 each. They measure about 8 by 8 inches and work for adult dogs and large-breed puppies who need more food per serving than a shallow tray holds.

Silicone stays consistent across both lines

Every eTray and eBowl is made from TPE silicone, made in the USA, and goes on the top rack of the dishwasher and in the freezer. The material means no cracks, no permanent stains and no odor after hundreds of meals. SodaPup stands behind this material choice across all their slow feeders, from the smallest eTray to the largest eBowl.

Designs and colors available

Shallow trays include the Garden Design in light green, Mandala in blue, pink, green, purple and yellow, Waiting Dogs in blue with dog silhouettes, Four Seasons in green with seasonal panels, and Water Frog in green or purple. Deep bowls include the Pine Tree eBowl in green with evergreen patterns, plus Wave, Honeycomb, Java, Flower and Great Outdoors in various colors and patterns.

Using freeze-dried treats to enhance mealtime

Either shallow or deep, both work perfectly with our freeze-dried treats crumbled into the ridges. The texture variety adds protein and keeps your dog engaged during slower eating. Small crumbles fit into both shallow and deep patterns equally well.

Questions

Will my dog adjust to a slow feeder if they have always eaten from a regular bowl?

Most dogs adapt in two or three meals. The ridges slow them down but feeding still happens normally. If your dog is resistant, mix in freeze-dried treat crumbles to make the slow feeder exciting and familiar.

How much does the meal slow down with a slow feeder?

It depends on your dog. Some dogs finish in half the time they used to. Others take twice as long. The goal is pacing, not making meals take forever, just giving your dog more time to enjoy the process.

Can I feed multiple dogs from one tray?

Not recommended. One bowl per dog may cause guarding and ensures each gets the right portion size for their weight and age.

Which design is most durable over time?

All silicone eTray and eBowl models are equally durable. Pick based on your dog's size and eating style, not durability concerns.

Do I need both shallow and deep models?

No. Choose one based on your dog's size and eating style. You can always switch later if one does not work as well as hoped.
