Modified Monthly in January: Resetting the Treat Routine

Our freeze-dried treats are the whole reason Modified Monthly exists: a dog subscription box that shows up every month so the pouch does not run empty in the middle of January, when the training routine most needs the reset.

What Modified Monthly is

Modified Monthly is our monthly treat box, built around our freeze-dried treats, and it ships on its own schedule so you are not the one remembering to reorder every few weeks. You can read the current details on the Modified Monthly page, which is the source we keep up to date rather than repeating specifics here that might change month to month, box to box.

What we can say without pointing you elsewhere is the idea behind it: our freeze-dried treats, on a schedule, so the thing that actually runs out first in most houses, which is the treats, is the thing that gets handled automatically.

What goes in the pouch in January

January is when a lot of training routines either restart or stall out completely, and having our freeze-dried treats already on hand is most of what keeps a restart from turning into next February's problem instead. Our Freeze-Dried Cheddar Cheese Dog Treats and Freeze-Dried Minnows both break down into pieces small enough for repetition work, and both fit in the One-Hand Treat Training Pouch that goes on Ella's leash walk whether there is a class that day or not.

If you want to browse past what happens to ship in any given box, our training-treats collection has the full range sized the same way, and our freeze-dried dog treats collection covers everything else we make, box or no box.

Why a box makes sense for a training month

The actual obstacle to a January training goal is rarely the training itself. It is remembering to reorder treats on a Tuesday in the middle of a work week, realizing the pouch is empty on the way out the door, and either skipping the walk or grabbing whatever is in the pantry instead. A box that shows up on its own schedule takes that specific failure point off the table, which matters more in January than in a month where the routine is not also trying to restart itself.

We built Modified Monthly around the treats we already make in Malvern, not as a separate product line with its own recipe, which is part of why the pouch looks the same in January whether the bag came from the box or off the shelf during a regular order. Ella does not know the difference and would not care if she did. The only thing that changes is whether you had to think about reordering.

Keeping the rest of the routine simple

Outside of the treats, we keep January simple on purpose. Same leash by the door, same pouch, same short list of cues we are working on rather than a long one that gets abandoned by the second week. The box handles one part of that list automatically, which frees up the attention that would otherwise go toward remembering to restock, and puts it back where it belongs, on the dog in front of you.

None of this requires the whole household to reorganize around a resolution. It is one box, arriving on a schedule, doing the one job of keeping the pouch full so the rest of January can stay exactly as unremarkable as it should be.

Questions

What is Modified Monthly?

It is our monthly treat box, built around our freeze-dried treats and shipped on a set schedule. The current details live on the Modified Monthly page, which we keep current rather than repeating here in case something about it changes between one month and the next.

Is January a good time to start?

As good as any month, honestly. If a training routine is restarting after the holidays, having the treats already arriving on a schedule takes one thing off a list that usually has too much on it already in the first weeks of the year, right alongside everything else that gets reset in January.

Can I still buy treats one bag at a time?

Yes. Modified Monthly is one way to get our freeze-dried treats, not the only way. Our training-treats collection and the rest of the shop are still there for anyone who would rather pick a single bag off the shelf, no box or schedule involved, just the treats.

Ella still checks the counter every time a box shows up, box or no box, before she has any idea what is actually inside it. Some habits do not need a resolution behind them. For more of the routine, see our explore page.
