Single Ingredient Jerky for Dogs: Duck, Beef and Chicken

When people search for duck jerky for dogs, beef jerky for dogs or a chicken version, they are usually looking for one thing: the meat, nothing else. We don't make jerky, but our freeze-dried single ingredient treats answer the same want in a different form.

What jerky is

Jerky is meat sliced thin and dried slowly, usually with heat or smoke, until most of the moisture is gone. It stays soft and pliable rather than crisp. Duck jerky, beef jerky and chicken jerky are the three most common versions on pet store shelves, and the better ones list a single protein as the only ingredient.

How that differs from freeze-dried

Freeze drying pulls water out under vacuum at a low temperature instead of drying with heat. The result is a light, dry piece that snaps rather than chews, and it keeps closer to the shape and structure of the fresh meat. We make our treats this way rather than as jerky, so a piece of our freeze-dried beef heart looks and feels different in the hand than a strip of beef jerky, even though both can start from one ingredient. For more on the process itself, see our guide on how freeze drying works.

Why one ingredient matters on either label

Whether you're looking at jerky or a freeze-dried bag, checking for a single ingredient tells you the same thing: no added sugar, no smoke flavoring, no filler between you and the meat. It's a label reading habit worth keeping regardless of which format you choose. We cover the broader difference in our guide on single ingredient versus limited ingredient treats.

Reading a jerky label the same way

The habit carries over directly. Flip the bag and look at the ingredient line first, before the front-of-bag copy. A true single ingredient duck jerky lists duck and nothing past it. If you see a second or third item, an oil, a flavoring, a preservative with a long name, the bag has moved from single ingredient to something else, even if the front still says duck jerky in large letters. The same check applies to beef jerky for dogs and chicken jerky: one word on the ingredient line, or it isn't single ingredient anymore.

What we make instead

We don't carry jerky, but three of our treats fill the same role: freeze-dried beef liver, our best known single ingredient treat, plus freeze-dried beef heart and freeze-dried turkey heart, both listed below. Each lists one ingredient and nothing else, the same standard you'd look for on a bag of duck or beef jerky. For the longer story on the heart cut, see freeze-dried turkey heart for dogs.

Questions

Do you sell duck jerky for dogs?

No. We make single ingredient freeze-dried treats, not jerky. If duck jerky is specifically what you want, look for a bag with one ingredient, duck, and nothing else on the line.

Is chicken jerky different from a chicken freeze-dried treat?

The difference is mainly the drying method, not the ingredient count. A single ingredient chicken jerky and a single ingredient freeze-dried chicken treat can both start from one protein; the texture and shelf approach are what differ.

Which is better, jerky or freeze-dried?

Neither is universally better. Jerky is chewier and often takes a dog longer to work through a piece. Freeze-dried is lighter, breaks apart easily, and rehydrates if you soak it. Pick based on the texture your dog prefers and what you want out of a session.

Can I break freeze-dried beef heart into smaller pieces like jerky strips?

Yes. It snaps apart by hand into smaller pieces, which makes portioning for a smaller dog or a training pouch simple.

What single ingredient options do you carry beyond heart and liver?

We also make single ingredient treats from tripe, salmon, sardines and cheddar cheese, each with one thing in the bag. See the full lineup on our Explore page.
