Treat pouch and treats: a starter set for a new dog owner
Share
Starting with a new dog means gathering the right tools along with our freeze-dried treats to support walks, training and everyday moments. A treat pouch and waste bag holder combined with freeze-dried treats from our collection forms the foundation every new dog family needs.
Why a pouch and treats matter
Walks happen several times a day. Training sessions appear at random moments. Without a dedicated place to carry treats, you end up with lint-covered crumbles in your pockets and forgotten sessions. A treat pouch clips to your leash or belt, always ready. Pair it with single ingredient treats and you have a training toolkit that fits in your hand.
Choosing your first pouch
Two styles work here. The Ava Waste Bag Holder and Treat Pouch from Pink Papyrus Co. holds waste bags and treats in one compact piece, with quick access through a gold grommet. The Hudson Waste Bag Holder and Treat Pouch offers the same two-in-one function at a lower price point, with secure storage for cards and cash as bonus space. For someone who walks hands-free, the Felicity Belt Bag wears crossbody or around the waist, holding a waste bag roll and treats with luxe gold hardware.
Which treats for which job
A common challenge for new dog owners is of training treats running out mid-week. Our Cheddar Bites 3-Pack solves this with three bags at saving against buying the bags separately. Cheddar gets a dog off a scent and back to your feet during repetition training. The Cheddar and Beef Liver Duo pairs two rewards together: cheddar for many easy repetitions, and the higher-value reward for the moments that have to land. Buying them as a pair saves money versus buying them separately.
Sizing and capacity
A starter pouch should fit easily in your hand and clip comfortably to a leash or belt. Ava and Hudson both hold enough freeze-dried crumbles for a full training session without being bulky. The Felicity bag holds more and suits someone doing multiple walks or longer sessions. Check the depth when treats are loaded so crumbles don't escape the top opening.
First walk setup
Load your new pouch with one bag of freeze-dried beef liver, crumbled into pea-sized pieces with your fingers. Bring waste bags for pickups. On your walk, use the liver reward when your dog makes the choice you want. Let your dog work for treats rather than handing them out constantly. This teaches your dog that good behavior earns the pouch opening.

Questions
Do I need both a pouch and waste bags?
Yes. Cleanup is part of every walk. A pouch that holds both lets you organize without carrying two separate items or fumbling through pockets.
Can I wash the pouch?
Pink Papyrus Co. pouches are made from nylon. Hand wash them with warm soapy water when crumbles accumulate inside, then air dry. Do not put them in the washer or dryer.
What if my dog doesn't like freeze-dried treats?
Start with a smaller size. Freeze-dried treats have a distinct texture and smell. Some dogs need a few sessions to adjust. If your dog consistently refuses them, try a different protein: beef tripe has a different scent than cheddar, and sardines appeal to fish lovers.
Can I use the pouch for other things?
Yes. Treat pouches work for keys, cards, coins and small necessities during hikes or errands, not just dog walks. The dual function makes it a useful everyday accessory.
