Using slow feeder bowls with freeze-dried treats
Share
Freeze-dried treats crumble into slow feeder bowls for enriched meals. A slow feeder bowl paired with crumbled freeze-dried treats turns an ordinary meal into an enrichment session. The ridges hold the treats in place while your dog works through both the puzzle and the flavor in one engagement.
Which treats crumble best
How much to add per meal
Use freeze-dried pieces as a topper, not a full meal replacement. A tablespoon of crumbles mixed with your dog's regular kibble is plenty. The goal is flavor and enrichment, not changing portion sizes dramatically. If you feed meal-sized amounts of our treats, you are no longer using the bowl as a feeding tool but rather as a treat dispenser.
Loading a tray step by step
Sprinkle freeze-dried crumbles into the ridges of your Garden Design eTray or other shallow model first. Fill the remaining space with kibble or wet food. The kibble will hold some of the loose crumbles in place. You can also crumble treats over the top layer right before serving for freshness.
Deep bowls work equally well
If you use a Mandala eTray, Waiting Dogs eTray, or Mandala Softie eTray with suction cups, the same layering trick works perfectly. Load ridges with crumbles first, then kibble. The pattern keeps both locked in place while your dog eats.
Freezing with freeze-dried treats
Freeze-dried crumbles in a slow feeder work great as a frozen enrichment toy. Mix crumbles with a little broth or peanut butter, spread in the ridges, and freeze. Your dog gets a longer-lasting enrichment session as the frozen food thaws slowly during eating.
In the Toys aisle
Slow feeder options: Garden Design eTray $19.99, Mandala eTray $17.99, Waiting Dogs eTray $17.99, Mandala Softie eTray $19.99. Our freeze-dried treats come in beef liver, beef tripe and whole sardines at varying sizes and prices. All three options work equally well for loading into slow feeder trays. You can mix and match flavors throughout the week to keep mealtime interesting for your dog. Some dogs prefer one flavor over another, so try all three.
How it ships
SodaPup products are sold through Shopify Collective and shipped to you directly by SodaPup in Longmont, Colorado, usually within one business day, with their own tracking. Not made or shipped by Sniff and Shift. Our freeze-dried treats are made in Malvern, Pennsylvania and ship separately from us.
Questions
Will crumbles fall out of the ridges into the kibble?
Some do, but that is fine. Your dog will eat them along with everything else. The ridges simply keep some pieces visible and slow the pace of eating.
Can I freeze a slow feeder with freeze-dried treats already in it?
Yes. The crumbles freeze solid with the kibble and water into one block. It becomes a frozen enrichment toy your dog has to lick and chew.
Do the ridges hold wet food and freeze-dried together?
Yes. Wet food acts like a glue holding crumbles in place. The combination is messier to serve but stays in the bowl during mealtime.
Which freeze-dried option pairs best with kibble?
All three work equally well. Beef liver has a strong smell dogs love. Tripe is earthier. Sardines are fishy. Pick based on your dog's preference and what your nose can handle during prep.
How long does this enrichment session take?
It depends on your dog. Most dogs finish a topped slow feeder meal in five to ten minutes. The freeze-dried crumbles do not add much time to eating, just flavor and motivation for engagement.
