The clay towel takes what a clay bar does and puts it on something you can actually hold. A face of polymerized rubber is bonded to a microfiber towel, so it removes bonded contaminants from paint, glass and trim while you keep the grip and the coverage of a normal towel. 3D rates it for up to 50 vehicles between rinses, which is a different order of life span from a bar you have to throw away when it drops.
Wash and rinse the car first, then keep the panel wet with clay lubricant or a detail spray and glide the towel in straight lines with almost no pressure. When the surface stops feeling gritty, move on. Rinse the rubber face often so grit is not dragged across the next panel. Because this step strips the paint bare, follow it with a polish, a wax or a sealant. Store it clean and dry, away from dust, so nothing is embedded in the face next time.

Running a clay towel over a whole car is a long, slow lap, and the dog usually makes several of their own laps for freeze dried dog treats in the same time.
