Claying paint without enough lubricant is how people put marks into a finish they were trying to clean. The 3D GLW Series Clay Lubricant exists to prevent that. 3D describes it as a hyper slick, high lubricity formula that keeps a layer between the clay and the paint so the bar glides instead of sticking, while it picks up bonded dirt, brake dust and environmental fallout. The maker calls it a completely neutral product that works with any clay bar, synthetic clay or clay substitute.

Wash the car first. Spray the panel generously, then slide the clay back and forth over the lubricated area until it goes smooth, and wipe the residue off with a clean microfiber before moving on. Reapply often. Running dry is the whole risk. This is the gallon, which is the right size for claying, because decontaminating a full car uses far more lubricant than most people expect on their first attempt.
