Not sure which length? Look up your dog's breed in our contact point finder — E-Collar Technologies' own coat chart for 302 breeds, cross-referenced to the exact sets below.
The right contact points are the difference between clear communication and inconsistent signals. Match point length to your dog's coat — short for smooth coats, long for thick fur — and choose hypoallergenic or titanium for sensitive skin.
How to Choose
- Micro 3/8": small dogs, very short smooth coats and RX-070 receivers — 43 of 302 charted breeds
- Short 1/2"–5/8": smooth and short single coats — 96 breeds, and the length that ships on most receivers
- Long 3/4": medium and dense coats — 47 breeds
- Thick Hair 3/4": double and woolly coats — 103 breeds, the most common answer of all
- MAX 1": corded and exceptionally heavy coats — only 13 breeds, so check before you buy
- Hypoallergenic & Titanium: for dogs with metal sensitivities or skin irritation — same size range
Standard receivers ship with 5/8" points. If your dog has a double coat and you've never changed them, that's very often the reason the collar feels unreliable — and on the chart, 163 of 302 breeds need something longer than what shipped in the box.
Long 3/4" or Thick Hair 3/4"?
They are the same length. The Thick Hair point has a broader body shaped to part a woolly undercoat; the Standard Long is slimmer, for coats that are dense but not double. If your dog blows coat twice a year, choose Thick Hair.
Why Fit Matters
Proper contact is step one of responsible e-collar use — loose or too-short points cause inconsistent signals and frustration. See troubleshooting common e-collar issues and our e-collar safety guide for fit and sizing.
Complete the Setup
- Comfort Pads — spread contact pressure on regular wearers
- CP-Adapter — repositions points for small and toy breeds

FAQ
How tight should the collar be? Snug enough for consistent contact without restricting breathing — roughly two fingers between strap and neck, with the points touching skin. Full guidance in our safety guide.
Which length do I need? Part the fur at the throat — if you can't easily see skin, go longer. Or search your breed in the finder, which also carries a 30-second coat check for mixes and doodles. Still unsure? Tell us your dog's breed and receiver model and we'll recommend a length. We're an authorized E-Collar Technologies dealer; these are genuine Educator points.
