Iron Buster is the wheel and paint decontamination step in the P&S Double Black lineup, made by P&S. Its job is the iron that a wash cannot touch: the hot ferrous particles thrown off by brake pads that bury themselves in wheel faces and settle across paint. P&S describes it as a "color changing, fast acting, pH balanced cleaner formulated to safely dissolve ferrous particulate from wheel and painted surfaces." The color change is the part you actually use: where iron is plentiful the product turns purple as it reacts, so you can see contamination leaving.

Work on a cool surface, out of direct sun. Spray the wheels or the paint, let the product dwell until the purple bleeding slows, then rinse thoroughly to leave a clean surface behind. It belongs between the wash and the clay, and again before any wax, sealant or coating goes on, since anything you seal over stays sealed in. This is the gallon, the size that makes sense when you are decontaminating whole vehicles a couple of times a year rather than spot treating one set of wheels.

Dogs are why a lot of us end up decontaminating more often than we planned, since the trailhead and the beach lot are where the car collects the worst of it. When the wheels are done and everyone is loaded back up, our freeze dried dog treats live in the door pocket for the drive home.
