Four interiors a week is about a hundred and eighty a year, and at that rate the unit that matters is cars per gallon, not what a pint costs at the counter. This is the interior side of a working book: a general cleaner, a foaming shampoo for fabric, a leather conditioner and a dressing, all in sizes that survive a month rather than a Saturday. Decant them into labeled bottles once and the restocking question goes quiet for a while.
Cars per gallon is the number
Pints empty fast at that rate. A detailer running four cars a week is opening a fresh bottle constantly, paying for the bottle and the trigger and the shipping every time, and still running dry mid job on a Thursday. Gallons change the arithmetic in the obvious direction. They also change how you work, because you stop rationing product over a stained seat and start using enough of it to actually clean the thing. Cleaner, shampoo, leather and dressing
Xpress Interior Cleaner is the bottle that touches every car. P&S says it safely cleans leather, vinyl, plastic, rubber and other interior materials without the risk of discoloration or damage, and that it removes dirt, grease, oil, body oils and everyday traffic marks while leaving surfaces clean and residue free. The finish is deliberately flat, and P&S describes the result as a clean factory fresh interior with an original OEM finish, never glossy or artificial. That last part is what customers notice without being able to name it, because a greasy dash reads as cheap no matter how clean the carpets are.
Upholstery Shampoo is the fabric step. Foam does the work rather than water, and P&S says the intense foam loosens and lifts the dirt from even deep carpet, which is the difference between cleaning a seat and soaking one. P&S describes it as a high sudsing concentrate for carpets and cloth interiors and says it contains a mild deodorant and detergent. The concentrate ratio is printed on the jug, so mix it the way the label tells you and label the bottle you put it in. A wet seat in a customer car at four in the afternoon is a call you do not want, so use the foam and extract or towel it rather than flooding the cushion.
Leather Treatment is the one pint in a kit of gallons, and that is on purpose. Only a fraction of the cars you take in have hide, and the product goes on thin and gets buffed off, so it lasts. P&S says that due to normal use seats over time become dry and lose their natural luster, and calls it the ideal product for reconditioning lifeless weathered automotive leather seats. Bolsters and the outer edge of the driver's seat are where the wear lives, so start there and work inward.
Shape-Up closes out every interior. P&S lists it as a water based silicone dressing meant for every dressing application, one that conditions, softens, preserves and protects leather, vinyl and rubber. On door sills, rubber mats and the plastic in the load area it puts the color back without the wet look that gets on customers' clothes. Dilute it down for a factory finish or use it neat on rubber that has gone gray. Keep it off pedals and off the steering wheel.
What you still have to supply
No extractor, no drill brushes, no vacuum. Those are tools rather than chemistry and you will buy them once, to your own preference, and keep them for years. The enzyme stain remover is an add on rather than a core item, since not every job needs it and a gallon of it sitting unused is money parked on a shelf. Empty labeled bottles are offered with the kit as well. Buy more of those than you think, because unlabelled bottles of diluted product are how a cleaner ends up on glass and a dressing ends up on a wheel. A repeatable interior, in order
Same sequence on every car, whatever the condition. A process you vary by mood is a process you cannot teach to anyone else.
- Strip the car: mats out, seats back, everything loose into a crate.
- Vacuum thoroughly, top down, before any liquid goes anywhere.
- Hard surfaces next with the interior cleaner and a detail brush for the seams and vents.
- Fabric after that, foam worked in with a brush and lifted back out rather than left to dry in.
- Leather last of the cleaning steps, conditioned and buffed while the fabric is drying.
- Dressing on the sills, mats and hard rubber, then glass, then put the car back together.
Glass sits at the very end for a reason. Whatever drifts off a sill or a mat while you dress it lands on the inside of the windshield, and a hazed screen at dusk is the one thing a customer calls about after an otherwise good detail.
What the gallons replace
Four containers stand in for a rolling order of pints that arrives late about once a quarter. The saving is not only in the liquid, it is in not driving to a store mid week, and in every car leaving with the same finish because it came out of the same jug. Questions
Can I use the interior cleaner on the headliner
Carefully, and always onto the towel rather than onto the fabric. Headliner backing glue fails when it gets wet, and a sagging roof lining is a repair that costs more than the whole detail.
Do I need a separate cleaner for leather
Not according to what P&S lists for this one, since leather is named among the materials it covers. Clean first, then condition, and use the treatment as a second step rather than expecting one bottle to do both.
How do I keep gallons from going off over winter
Keep them off a cold concrete floor and out of a van overnight in a hard freeze. Water based products do not enjoy freezing and thawing, and a separated dressing never mixes back properly.
