Puppy Teething Toys Kit: Two Textures, Two Chews

Somewhere around sixteen weeks a puppy starts chewing with real intent, and whatever is nearest becomes the target. This kit is two surfaces the puppy is allowed to work on and two edible things to load them with, scaled for a dog that is still under about 25 pounds. It is not a fix for chewing. Four months old and everything is a chew toy
The mistake is handing over one rubber toy and expecting it to hold. A teething puppy is not bored, it is uncomfortable, and one texture gets old fast. You want variety in hardness and in what the puppy has to do to get the reward out.
So this kit carries a soft rubber thing, a hard nylon thing, a crunchy edible thing, and something to smear into the grooves.
What the four pieces do and when to skip one
The Air eCoin is the nylon half. SodaPup makes it as a flat five inch disc with a hot air balloon pattern and treat grooves on both faces, in blue. Because it is nylon rather than silicone, a puppy that decides to chew the mat instead of licking it does not destroy it in one sitting. It goes on the top rack of the dishwasher. Skip it if your puppy has no interest in licking and only wants to bite, in which case the rubber toy is doing the real work.
The Puppy Can Toy is the soft rubber half. It is shaped like a small can, comes in pink, and SodaPup describes it as gentle enrichment for teething puppies made from FDA-compliant natural rubber. The Small measures 2.5 inches tall by 1.5 inches wide, weighs 1.7 ounces and has a .625 inch hole, which SodaPup sizes for dogs under 15 pounds. That hole size is the spec worth checking. Too wide and the filling falls out in thirty seconds, too narrow and the puppy gives up.

Crush a few between your fingers and press the crumbs into the eCoin grooves, or drop whole pieces into the can toy with a splash of water and freeze it. Cheddar is single ingredient, freeze-dried here in Malvern, and it holds its shape rather than turning to paste, which is why it works in a groove.
Our Air-Dried Duck Feet are the crunchy part. One ingredient, duck feet, eight to a bag, guaranteed analysis 39 percent crude protein and 19 percent crude fat. They are the denser cousin of our chicken feet, which is deliberate for a puppy past the first teething wave. Hand one over while you are sitting in the room, and take it back when it gets small enough to swallow whole. What we left out on purpose
Plenty of teething lists start with a wet washcloth tied in a knot and frozen. It costs nothing and some puppies love it. We left it out because a washcloth is fabric, and the puppy that learns fabric is chewable does not distinguish between the washcloth and the corner of the couch. If you use one, use it in a crate and take it away the moment it starts shredding.
Running the rotation across a day
Morning, the can toy, loaded and frozen the night before. Twenty minutes, usually.
Midday, the eCoin with cheddar crumbs pressed in. This one is quicker, maybe ten minutes, and it is the one to use when you need the puppy occupied while you are on a call. Rinse it right after or the crumbs set hard in the grooves.
Evening, a duck foot, on the floor, with you nearby. That is the loudest of the three and the shortest. Then all of it goes away, which matters more than any of the individual items, because a toy that is always available stops being interesting by Thursday. Two objects instead of a drawer full
The usual pattern is buying a new toy every time the last one gets ignored, and ending the year with a basket of things the dog walked past. A nylon surface and a rubber one cover most of what a puppy wants from a chew, and rotating them out of sight does more than a sixth toy would. How long does teething last?
Most puppies are through the worst of it by about seven months. The chewing habit outlives the teething, which is the argument for building a rotation now rather than waiting it out.
Can I put peanut butter on the lick mat?
Yes, and plenty of people do. We do not sell a spread, so the version we use is crushed freeze-dried treats with a little water, which freezes well and leaves less residue in the grooves.
My puppy is 30 pounds already. Is this kit still right?
The eCoin is fine at any size. The Puppy Can Toy is not, since SodaPup sizes the Small for dogs under 15 pounds. Step up to the standard Can Toy line instead and keep everything else.
