Lamb and pork are named as the first two ingredients in the Ranch recipe of the Essence LIR line, followed by lamb meal and pork meal, then quinoa and pumpkin. The guaranteed analysis lists glucosamine at a 3000 mg per kg minimum and chondroitin at 400 mg per kg, both listed with the asterisk the maker uses for guarantees not recognized as essential nutrients by AAFCO, alongside a 32.5% minimum crude protein and 25.5% minimum crude fat. As with the Ocean recipe in this line, the AAFCO statement is for growth, excluding growth of large size dogs, so Zignature has not extended the large breed growth claim to this recipe. Pork fat, preserved with mixed tocopherols, supplies most of the added fat, ahead of marine microalgae oil listed further down for omega fatty acids. The manufacturer's page suggests feeding up to twice the adult amount by weight during the growth period, tapering as the puppy approaches its adult size. Whatever food ends up in the bowl, a single ingredient freeze dried topper is a way to add interest without changing the diet, which is what Sniff and Shift makes in Malvern, Pennsylvania.
