RUPES D-A Coarse Wool Polishing Pad, 6" Blue (9.NW160H)

This is the coarse end of the RUPES D-A wool range, part number 9.NW160H, a 160 millimeter pad for a six inch backing plate. RUPES designed the coarse wool pads for dual action tools and states they are specifically crafted for effectively removing severe paint defects. The blue foam behind the wool is the difference from the yellow medium pads. RUPES describes it as more rigid and dense, which enhances the transfer of tool movement into the surface and increases cutting power.

Reach for this pad when the paint has heavy swirling, oxidation or deeper marks that a medium wool or a foam cutting pad will not clear in a reasonable number of passes. Pair it with a compound rated for the same level of work, keep the pad clean as the wool loads up, and plan on a refining step afterward, since an aggressive cut always leaves something for a finishing pad to tidy.
