Remove Salt Residue From Car Kit
Share
The car looks washed and still has a gray film on it. That film is what a salt belt winter bonds into paint, wheels and everything under the rockers, and soap will not lift it because soap was never the right tool. To remove salt residue from car paint you need decontamination rather than another wash. A chemical decon dissolves the bonded iron. A clay pad takes what the chemistry loosens but does not release, and a degreaser goes into the wheel wells where the brine pack actually lives. This is one long session, not a routine. The rest of the range sits on the bundle guides hub.
One session in April, not a weekly habit
There is a separate winter kit for the washes you run between December and March, and the two do different work. The weekly wash keeps the load from building. This one strips what got through anyway, and you do it once, on the first warm weekend, with a whole morning set aside. Doing it in February is wasted effort, because the roads will put it straight back.
Chemistry, then clay, then the underside
P&S Iron Buster is the pint that starts it. P&S describes Iron Buster as a "color changing, fast acting, pH balanced cleaner formulated to safely dissolve ferrous particulate from wheel and painted surfaces". Once it is on, it turns purple where iron is plentiful, which is the useful part: you can see where winter actually landed instead of guessing. A pint covers a set of wheels several times over, or one full decontamination pass on a normal car.
The 3D Detailing Clay Pad handles what is left. It is a disc of polymerized rubber rather than a bar, 3D rates it for up to 50 vehicles before replacement, and unlike a bar it rinses clean if you drop it on the driveway. 3D designed it for use with a machine polisher at low speed and light pressure, with the panel kept flooded in clay lubricant. A gallon of that lubricant sits in the add ons and the step does not work without it.
P&S Hot Shot is the gallon for underneath. Wheel wells, rocker undersides, the back of the bumpers, the parts you only see when the car is on ramps. P&S calls it "a very strong degreasing and cleaning solution that completely dissolves grease and dirt", and says it may be used full strength on tough applications or diluted with water for lighter cleaning. Keep it off hot surfaces, work in shade, and rinse hard.
The step people expect and we did not include
No wax or sealant in the three, which looks like a gap on a page about a spring reset. It is deliberate. Decontamination strips the paint back to bare, and what you put on afterwards depends on whether you want a spray sealant that takes twenty minutes or a coating that takes a day. One is listed as an add on rather than being chosen for you.
No underbody lance either. A proper undercarriage flush wants a dedicated attachment on a pressure washer, and that is hardware rather than chemistry. Everything we do stock is on the Wash Bay. Clay formats and decon sprays can be compared on Explore before you commit.
How the morning runs
Wash the whole car first, wheels included, and let it dry. Iron Buster next, panel by panel on cool paint in the shade, left until the purple stops spreading and rinsed before it dries. Wash again. Now flood a panel with lubricant and work the clay pad across it, rinsing the pad face regularly so trapped grit is not dragged into the next section.
Wheel wells last, with the degreaser and a long handled brush, because that is where the rinse water will run from. Then dry the car and put protection back on the same day if you can. Paint that has been decontaminated and left bare for two weeks is paint that has to be done again.
Rinse the purple run off away as you go rather than at the end of the morning. It marks concrete, and a hose left trickling along the low edge of the driveway costs nothing next to finding out how long those stains last.
What one session replaces
A spring decon at a detail shop is a booked half day. The pint here covers a normal car for the year, the clay pad runs for many more cars than that, and the degreaser gallon carries on doing engine bays and mower decks until it is gone. The part you cannot buy back is a clear coat left with bonded iron in it all summer, which is what actually costs money later.
Questions we get
Why does the product turn purple?
It is reacting with ferrous particles. More purple means more embedded iron, so the color is a map of where your winter went rather than a gimmick.
Do I have to clay if I use the iron remover?
Usually yes, on a winter car. Chemistry lifts the iron and leaves behind the bonded road film you can still feel through a plastic bag. Run a hand over the panel after the decon and let that decide.
Is one spring session enough?
For most cars in the salt belt, yes, with a lighter repeat in fall if you tow or drive gravel. The weekly winter wash is what keeps this session to a morning rather than a weekend.
How it ships
Pal Automotive items are sold and shipped by Pal Automotive through Shopify Collective and arrive separately. A pint, a pad and a gallon leave Piscataway, New Jersey on one tracking number, usually within a business day of the order. Add the clay lubricant to the same order. Standing on a driveway in April with a clay pad and nothing to flood the panel with is the one mistake this kit makes easy.
