What the Search Dog Foundation Does

Founded in 1996 and based in Santa Paula, California, SDF recruits high-energy dogs from shelters — often the very dogs struggling to get adopted — and puts them through elite training to locate people buried alive in the wreckage of disasters: earthquakes, hurricanes, building collapses, mudslides.

Trained dogs are then partnered with firefighters and first responders at no cost, forming canine-handler teams that deploy to disasters across America and beyond.
