Guaranteed analysis (as fed, per manufacturer): Crude protein (min) 27%, Fat content (min) 17%, Crude fiber (max) 6%, Moisture (max) 12%, EPA (min) 0.1%, DHA (min) 0.1%, Calcium (min) 1.8%, Phosphorus (min) 1.3%, Vitamin E (min) 750 IU/kg, Taurine (min) 0.1%, Omega-6 fatty acids (min) 2%, Omega-3 fatty acids (min) 0.5%, Glucosamine (min) 300 mg/kg, Total Microorganisms (min) 1 Million CFU/lb. Energy 3,370 kcal/kg (371 kcal per standard 8 oz cup), with 29 percent of calories from protein, 28 percent from carbohydrates and 43 percent from fat.

Three red meats and a notably generous organ list: beef and pork lead, lamb appears tenth, and beef liver, pork liver, pork kidney, beef tripe and beef kidney all make the statement, which is more organ meat than most grain-inclusive kibble at this price. Protein 27 percent and fat 17 percent as-fed minimums on 3,370 kcal/kg, the same numbers as the lamb and duck Wholesome Grains recipes. Two notes. The guaranteed analysis on this page labels the fat line Fat content rather than the regulated term Crude fat, which is the only recipe in the Acana range to do so; the figure is reproduced as published with the label noted. And as with the rest of the Wholesome Grains all-life-stages recipes, the AAFCO statement excludes growth of large breed dogs despite the All Life Stages label in the index, which the 1.8 percent calcium and 1.3 percent phosphorus minimums do not hint at. No sourcing or made-in statement published.

Questions about Acana Wholesome Grains Red Meat (All Life Stages, Dry)

Can large breed puppies eat it?

No. The maker's AAFCO statement covers All Life Stages except for the growth of large breed dogs at 70lbs or more as an adult.

Which meats are in it?

Beef, pork and lamb, plus beef liver, pork liver, pork kidney, beef tripe and beef kidney. It is not a single-protein diet, so it is not the recipe for working around a beef or pork sensitivity.

Why does the fat line say Fat content?

Because the manufacturer labels it that way on this product page rather than using the regulated term Crude fat. It is the only Acana recipe in this library that does. The 17 percent minimum is reproduced as published.
