One transcription note first, because it matters for anyone reading the numbers closely. The maker's page prints moisture as a minimum of 10%, where a guaranteed analysis conventionally states moisture as a maximum. It is almost certainly a typing slip for a 10% maximum, which is what the rest of the Health Extension dry range publishes, but it is printed as a minimum and is recorded that way here rather than quietly corrected, so the dry matter conversion below should be treated as approximate. On that assumption the guarantees work out to roughly 27 percent protein and 16 percent fat on a dry matter basis. What distinguishes this bag is purpose rather than recipe: the ingredient list is the same as the standard Chicken and Brown Rice kibble, but the kibble is made larger, which the maker says promotes slower eating and thorough chewing, and the guarantees add L-Carnitine at 100mg/kg, glucosamine at 400mg/kg and chondroitin sulfate at 200mg/kg with vitamin E doubled to 300 IU/kg, a joint and weight support package aimed at big adult dogs. The AAFCO statement covers adult maintenance only, so this is not a large breed puppy food despite the size. Menhaden Fish Meal appears seventh, so it is not a single protein diet. Health Extension publishes no made-in statement and no sourcing statement for this recipe, which holds the disclosure tally at 6 rather than 8.
