Guaranteed analysis (as fed, per manufacturer): Crude Protein (min) 30%, Crude Fat (min) 14%, Crude Fibre (max) 4.5%, Moisture (max) 10%, DHA (min) 0.11%, Calcium (min) 1.2%, Phosphorus (min) 1.0%, Vitamin A (min) 5000 IU/kg, Vitamin E (min) 50 IU/kg, Taurine (min) 0.1%, Omega-6 (min) 1.25%, Omega-3 (min) 0.4%. AAFCO: Open Farm Wild-Caught Salmon Recipe is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for All Life Stages except for growth of large size dogs (70 lb. or more as an adult) (per manufacturer).
This is the grain free counterpart to Open Farm's salmon and ancient grains kibble, and the swap shows in the top of the panel: oats and quinoa are gone and pumpkin, coconut oil and flaxseed move up, with apples appearing fifth. Salmon is the only animal protein in the first six either way, so both versions are single protein foods, but the grain free one carries four more points of protein, 30 percent against 26, and a point less fat at 14 against 15. Calories are close, 420 a cup here against 424. One figure is worth noticing before a switch: taurine is guaranteed at 0.1 percent here against 0.2 percent in the ancient grains version, the same halving seen between Open Farm's two lamb recipes. Taurine is not an AAFCO essential nutrient for dogs, but grain free diets are the category the FDA examined in its investigation into diet associated canine dilated cardiomyopathy, which reached no causal finding, so a lower guaranteed figure on the grain free side of a pair is a reasonable thing to raise with your vet rather than ignore.
